BBC News School Report
Pupils from St. Patrick’s joined thousands of other teenagers nationwide to take part in the 2017 BBC News School Report Day.
The School Report is an opportunity for students to experience all the aspects of the news, journalism and current affairs.
With help from several staff members who made contributions (and under the watchful eye of English teachers Mr. Molyneux and Miss Pitchford) a group of year 8 pupils spent the morning of Thursday 16th March researching for and producing news stories about both national and local issues. Pupils produced online news articles and video reports about recent events including Mental Health Awareness Week and facilities in both the school and local area.
Working to a strict deadline, pupils had to ensure that they pulled together and worked successfully as a team to ensure that the reports were both accurate and appropriate, meeting the BBC guidelines for journalism.
Miss Pitchford, who has liaised with the BBC to help organise the event said “Our pupils have worked incredibly hard throughout the day. Not only have they prepared, researched and created their reports, but they have also displayed skills in teamwork, organisation and time management. I’m absolutely thrilled with their efforts.”
